The Healthy Schools Act was enacted to ensure US public school students are receiving nutritious meals and snacks during the school day. This has been met with mixed reactions. Some welcome the new regulations, citing rising childhood obesity rates. Others think the regulations go too far, making cafeteria food all the more unappealing to students. Still others feel that the government should not dictate student diets.

The government should not be placing as many restrictions on school lunches as they have, they should still have some restrictions but not as mant. It is understandable that the government wants teen obesity rates to go down but I think that they are approaching it the wrong way. The government is making it hard for the lunch ladies to even make food that tastes good. Since the government has placed all these restrictions on the food the amount of food that is being thrown out and even the amount of food that is still being bought in school cafeterias has gone down.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you said, the gonverment can teach us how to eat properly but they don't have to force feed us food that we don't want
DeleteI think the government has gotten ahead of themselves. The caloric intake is at an extreme low compared to past years, which is good but, the consumption level has began to diminish as well. We need to make sure that food is appealing, tasteful, and healthy which we all know and understand there is away to include all of these factors into one.
ReplyDeleteYes, I looked into the calorie intake also
DeleteThe Healthy Schools intiative act has did more harm the good. The food waste has increased 50% more ever since this act was set in place by the USDA. The act is that students are to eat smaller portions, and it is mandatory that they take a fruit or vegetable each day with each meal. I feel as if the government is wasting money on school lunches that's only benefiting the trash can. Forcing a healthy meal plan on students will just make them not want to eat and not have enough energy to continue their day, and even their after school activites.
ReplyDeletei agree that they need to do something about there portion sizes a little bit if they want kids to move on with a healthy fueled day

DeleteI agree with this because why are they still spending money on food lunches if they know that we don't really like the policy. All the food that is being wasted, and teachers complain how we don't listen in class and just sleep maybe because we don't have the strength.
Deletei agree with your statement that kids should eat little less portion and have the right to eat a nutrition fruit.
DeleteThe school lunches at FPC isn't really as bad like other schools but I think they shouldn't have vegetables and fruits because what's the point. Schools still sell cookies. I thought they was trying to make us healthy. Also some people be so hungry but they don't want the school lunch because they say its nasty and look like dog food. That is why students either bring their own food or they will just call their parents and tell them to bring something. Some people only eat the nachos or a burger and just throw the rest away. That is just wasting food so why have vegetables and its going in the trash. According to the video students don't really want the fruits and vegetables they have they have to be reminded to take a fruit or a vegetable.
ReplyDeleteThat is also true Tiandra
DeleteI do not think that regulations are taking this action too far. The Healthy School Act is trying to help kids eat healthier and fight child obesity. This act is helping kids have healthier choices and gathering all the nutrition they need with a balance of a certain amounts of proportions . Allowing them to still have there meats but adding a boost of greens with some vegetable or even some fruits.
ReplyDeleteThe government is willing to put our schools into healthy foods which is a bright idea and a good health for others kids. Other kids willing to not agree with the statement that the government should increase more healthier food. But kids are wasting food and trowing them in the garbage because of the way they are not most likely like to eat those type of nutritions foods. Its right and good way to keep kids from eating the non healthy foods which it will increase their ability gain more strength in their bodies.
ReplyDeleteI agree that they do through out their food so it is a waste.
DeleteI personally believe that the government is trying to approach the wrong way kids are starving them selves because the government makes cafeteria ladies cook items with hardly any flavor. So really is the government really making us healthy? Because majority of the kids in schools that are getting feed this will not eat the food at all i`d rather they do special fridays pr special days where its free to buy anything you want for that specific day in lunch. Thats how the government should have approached it or age cafeteria ladies more substances to use for their food and then maybe kids will actually get some protein and calories.
ReplyDeleteI agree the kids are starving themselves because the food is just horrible.
DeleteI agree that kids dont eat the food at all.
DeleteI dont agree with the healthy school regulations because no one really likes the food people are just wasting more food. I don't think the Healthy school initiative group should be choosing what they want us to eat let us choose were close to being grown up and having to make decisions on our own. Let the kids choose between junk food and healthy food and if they eat the junk food and get obese then thats there fault for choosing the junk food.
ReplyDeleteThe government shouldn't tell us what to eat. Most kids just throw away the food they don't want. They think they we're eating better by giving us vegetables but they just get thrown away. The lunch doesn't even taste that good either. The longer we keep serving this food the more food will be wasted. And there is still junk food available. Kids can still get cookies and chips and soda. So kids really aren't eating healthier. They will just throw away the food they don't want and eat the stuff they want.
ReplyDeleteChildren should be able to eat what they want during breakfast and lunch. Sometimes they need food that's not healthy and have a good serving amount. They throw most of the food away because it doesn't taste good to them and doesn't have what they like. Yes it's good for kids to eat healthy food but kids need energy, sugar to get through the day. They can bring their own lunch to but they already carry around a lot of things it their backpacks they don't need another thing in their bags.
ReplyDeleteThe healthy schools program benefits the kids in many ways. Though they should be able to chose what they want to eat. If they want to be unhealthy then that is what they should do. All making them forcibly eat healthy will make them hate the good food. You have these kids who don't eat the lunch food because they think its gross so the starve themselves instead of eat the food. So why waste the food because the kids are picky. Therefore i agree that the Healthy School Act should be overturned.
ReplyDeleteNo i do not think the Healthy Schools Initiative Act should be overturned, It was intended to benefit the youth, but the food didn't come out all great. They should make a few adjustments so that students like the healthy food. If they can't do that then the initiative act should be done away with.
